These delightful Concert Smallpipes were patterned after a set of 150 year old antique Bellows Blown Scottish Border Pipes, found years ago in the border region of Scotland. It quickly became evident the old pipes displayed an uncommonly beautiful tone. To keep that tradition alive and well, the drone and chanter bore specs were copied and used as the inspiration for the Piper's Choice Concert Pipes of today. They have since evolved to becoming mouth blown, then, by further customer demand, a drone configuration choice of bass, tenor, tenor or bass, baritone, tenor, along with the option of a border pipe or traditional scottish smallpipe chanter. Finally to where they are today, with the look of a mini bagpipe.

Quality is excellent. Pipes are beautiful in their fabrication. Fit is extremely good- everything goes together snug but not tight. Tone, with the Bass, Baritone and Tenor drones is very pretty. I recommend it. Still working to get comfortable with playing position, especially sitting. I have the 3 drones in a single box, rather than spread across my shoulder, like my highland pipes. I like the traditional look, but it makes it a little harder for me to get used to them. I love the sound. Basically exactly what I ordered and ready to play right out of the box. Considering the price, lower than a lot of other similar pipes I looked at, they are a very good deal. cheers
Hi Ron, I just wanted to say thanks for the bagpipes. Both the pipes and border chanter arrived yesterday morning and I have barely been able to set them down! They play beautifully and arrived perfectly setup. It was especially fitting to receive these on the 275th anniversary of Culloden...the small pipes are perfect for discrete practice indoors! (incase Biden decides to ban the pipes as an instrument of war
These unassuming-looking Smallpipes are inexpensive, great sounding, and easy to play. I purchased them because my GHB is naturally, really loud (and frankly take a lot of energy). With the Pipers Choice Smallpipe, I can rehearse for long periods of time, as they take very little air. Choosing the over-the-shoulder drone style allows me to switch back and forth between slightly louder Border Pipes and Smallpipes. Like all Smallpipes, the drones give a delightful humming, suitable for indoor playing. Even though I obtained the extra chanter and drone for Border Pipe...I like the Smallpipe sound so much that I don't even convert it to Borderpipes anymore. While playing, the drones give a rich resonance that carries through the bag! It is so similar to my GHB that setting drones, tuning, and even chanter fingering is absolutely the same. Constructed of polypenco, I don't worry about changes in the weather, and stability. The instrument comes equipped with small EZ-Drone reeds in the drones. Smallpipe chanters come with a nice quality synthetic reed. If you get the Border Pipe chanter, it comes with a great quality cane chanter reed. It comes with an extended small, synthetic bag of superior quality. Despite its small size, this product is not a toy, it's a serious instrument. Proudly made by Pipers Choice (Canada). My only regret is not getting one sooner!
I ordered a set with two tenor drones (instead of a tenor and a baritone), and they are outstanding! The pipes are easy to play and better indoors than my set of McCallum's because of the softer tone and volume. Plus Ron at Iowa Bagpipe Supply was fantastic at keeping me posted on my order and making sure all was well. I highly recommend both the smallpipes and the shop!
The Piper's Choice Smallpipes were recommended as having a beautiful sound; so, the Piper's Choice Smallpipes were purchased to have available to play as an additional "option" for weddings, funerals and other more intimate events where an appointment to play the pipes is extended. I could not be happier with the set of Piper's Choice Smallpipes. The sound is fantastic; and, playing is an absolute joy. It is hard to put them down; let's just say the Piper's Choice Smallpipes are somewhat addictive to play . . . in a good and positive sort of way. I liked the set so much, that I ordered the additional Border Pipe Chanter; which, is brighter; making the Piper's Choice Smallpipes sounding much more like a traditional set of Highland bagpipes; doubling my options for the sound I want to convey to my audience when playing at special events. As both the Smallpipe chanter and the Borderpipe chanter are tuned to the key of "A"; along with the drones I ordered (A,E,E); I am able to perform with a variety of other folk and orchestral musicians at high-visibility public and private functions. I am very happy with the Piper's Choice Smallpipes. Thanks!
